Whether you filled up a fish bowl with free slurpees or dressed up like a cow for free chic fil a, I hope this week was good to you fam. Here’s another round of 5 things that happened in pop culture, relax + enjoy this week's picks fam.
1. Lana Del Rey's New Music
Earlier this week, music icon Lana Del Rey blessed her fans with two new singles featuring A$AP Rocky + Playboi Carti. The two singles are titled Groupie Love + Summer Bummer, and the tracks are already on my summer playlist. Lana will be releasing her fourth studio album at the end of this month titled “Lust for Life” and it will feature collabs with artists like The Weeknd, Stevie Knicks, and Sean Ono Lennon. I am beyond ready for this album and these singles are making the wait just a little bit easier. Check on this video article by pitchfork analyzing Lana’s persona and aesthetic evolution through the years, here.
2. Fight Night
It was announced this week that two iconic UFC stars will be having it out in the ring. Floyd Mayweather will be taking on Conor McGregor on Saturday August 26th at the T-Mobile arena in good ole Las Vegas, NV. This will either be the match of the decade or a phenomenal money marketing machine, either way we'll just have to wait and see.
3. KIM K. Scandal
Kim K. was caught in the midst of a 24 second scandal earlier this week, when fans claimed that she had left out drugs on the counter in the background of her snapchat. Kardashian is known for abstaining from drugs and alcohol and was quick to shut down this rumor via twitter. However in the end the truth was revealed… it was merely the design of the marble counter. This has to be one of the oddest headlines of the week but none the less brought me some comedic relief. Check out the snaps and responses in this article by the Huffington Post, here.
4. ColdPlay in Dublin
Videos from Coldplay's show in Dublin are going viral across twitter for a very special reason. Fans recorded Chris Martin pulling up a fan in a wheelchair up on stage with him. Spoiler: the kid pulled out a harmonica and performed alongside the band. Shoutout to this guy for having a story to kill awkward dinner parties. Take a look for yourself, here.
5. 4:44 Footnotes
Jay-Z (who lets point out has been featured in the top 5 almost every week) is back with more for the fans. This week he released video footnotes for his album via tidal that are visual commentary on each track. HOV compiled interviews with friends Chris Rock, Trevor Noah, Will Smith and many more. They discuss topics such as systemic racism in America as well as the struggle of being honest and vulnerable in relationships. Be sure to check it out exclusively via Tidal fam (P.S. if you’re a student you can become a member for $4.99 a month.)
